Wrangell St. Elias Self Drive Tour - 2012
DAY 1
Fly into Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Pick up rental car and begin the drive. Follow the Glenn Highway to the easy directions provided to Copper Center, approx. 4.5 hours. Overnight.
DAY 2
After breakfast continue your drive to Chitna and the gateway to Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Fly 1/2 hour from Chitna to McCarthy where the folks from the Kennicott Glacier Lodge will pick you up and transfer you to the wilderness lodge. 2 nights (note shared bath and private bath are both available - base itinerary is priced with shared bath
DAY 3
Today learn how the gold rush brought prospectors to this area and how they found copper instead on an historic Kennicott Mine Mill Tour. Optional glacier hikes, walks and climbs also available.
DAY 4
Enjoy a leisurely morning before you board your flight back to Chitna and drive to Valdez. Allow 2 hours for the drive once you start. Take a moment on Thompson Pass to see all the fantastic waterfalls. Overnight Valdez. (note - option to extend time in Valdez to 2 nights or more for fishing or glacier viewing excursions)
DAY 5
After a morning exploring the Museum, the Alaska state ferry will depart for the crossing of Prince William Sound to Whittier where you will catch back up with the highway system and drive to Anchorage to continue the rest of your Alaska land excursion OR make connections homeward.

Based on compact rental car, accommodation nights per itinerary including taxes, no meals, shared bath in Kennicott, ferry passage, Kennicott tour, McCarthy flight, based on double occupancy: $1299 per person. Upgrade to private bath at Kennicott - $1415.00 per person. Meal package at Kennicott Glacier Lodge is available.
